Speaking OUT
'Diversity' is sometimes best understood by simply listening to peoples' personal stories. Listening can be the best way to answer the questions you always wanted to ask but never had to courage to (or questions you never even *thought* to ask), and can dispel the assumptions and prejudices you didn't realise you had about your own community.
The Youtube videos below were created by the University of Nottingham's Student Union to advise lecturers on the experiences of LGBT+ students. While the focus is on student:tutor relationships, the content of the videos shows how *identity* is defined differently by everyone, provides insight into personal pronouns, disclosure and confidentiality, and reinforces how taking the time to listen can overcome any perceived awkwardness by first showing care and respect
